DSL

I have AT&T DSL.

I've been connected to their system for over 15 years.

The CAT5 cable connected to my PC NIC is my gateway to the outside world. Works consistently. Never a problem.

I NEED someone to explain to me why two different wireless routers will NOT consistently login to this DSL connection and when they do the connection will only last a few minutes to a few seconds.

All of my google searches are dead ends.

Do I need another gee-wiz piece of hardware?

I NEED a solution.

  • The new suggestion is to get the router to "look" like a PC is logging in.

I was told AT&T keeps tight control of this.

If your own hardware does NOT look like a PC the login fails.

Anyone know how to get my router to "look" like a PC?

  • I'm using the router to login to the dsl network.

2 different routers and still no consistent connectivity.

  • you will have to setup your wireless router to login to the dsl network.  There should be instructions on AT&T's website for this under trouble shooting.  The wireless router should have a admin login where you can set this up.  Let me know if you need more specifics.

  • This works...CAT5 cable from the telephone pole connects directly to the PC NIC.

This does not work...Remove PC. Replace with wireless router. Try to login. Sometimes it will. If login works connection is dropped after a few seconds or minutes. Tried two different wireless routers. Behavior remains the same.

  • i'm confused on ur setup. would you be more specific, like:

this is connected to this, which is connected to this.

What wireless device, if any are you using, to access the wireless network?
