If you've ever wondered what the surface of a fly...and I'm talking about the entire fly...looks like in perverse detail, well you've been able to look at that for years with cool SEM images. But basic SEM imagery is inherently two dimensional (although from my memory of it, it required manipulation of the third dimension to get the electron to jump, thereby enabling the 2D image to be made) and only now has a German researcher named Stefan Diller spent...well, clearly A LOT of time stitching together 2D images with cool software to create 3D renderings that are just absolutely stunning. Being able to cruise along the surface of the fly like Luke in his X-wing along the Deathstar?  Totally awesome.  And the only thing creepier than said trip along the fly? The still shots of Diller in his lab smiling.  Just kidding!  Enjoy.
